A Home Where Creativity and Family are King

Image
A Home Where Creativity and Family are King Without a doubt, the last two years have been the most influential in terms of shaping my home’s design. Being bold and less afraid to make a mistake, I’m more focused on what makes my space a good fit for me as opposed to what others may deem the “right” look. Sure, there is something to be said for the simplified, modernist take on the bachelor pad, but I favor the rich luxe of my blue velvet sofa, fur table runners and a gooey mix of street art and highbrow design. After all, it’s just me in here, so I say it’s time for my taste to be king! The spaces that catch my eye tend to also throw the rulebook out the window in favor of crafting a home that brings to life the owner’s unique image of where they’d like to live. Nina van de Goor and her husband have definitely found their stride when it comes to designing for their family’s needs. They knew right away that their vision of a home with layered styling and color in the Netherlands would a

A Gallery of Bohemian Bedrooms

Image
A Gallery of Bohemian Bedrooms If you love the bohemian look — or you're just looking to add a little color or texture or pattern to your sleeping space — you'll find plenty of inspiration in this set of ten eclectic bedrooms. Above: this cabin, from Lantliv via Planete Deco , is a riot of texture and pattern, but somehow the overall feel is comfy and relaxing. An oversized houseplant and lots of pillows liven up this space from The Marion House Book via A Cup of Jo . All the patterns and textures here work beautifully. From The Home via Muna Home . A gauzy canopy makes for a serene sleeping space. From Vanessa's Vintage Bohemian Hilltop Home . Not technically a bedroom — more like a loft — but I couldn't resist including this one. Spotted on Misguided UK . Proof that you don't need to heap on lots of and lots of color to get an interesting, global look. The textured pieces here — the rugs on the floor and the wall, and the Moroccan wedding blanket — are working

A Few Things

Image
A Few Things Hello, Friends. How are you? Was it a good week at your house? Our big event was celebrating Oscar’s 13th birthday. I can hardly believe it. Little Oscar is a teenager? How is that possible? Here are a few Oscar highlights that made me smile this week: This report of Oscar turning three (a decade ago when we lived in New York!). Oscar in second grade when we lived in France. Nine-year-old Oscar making a swing all by himself when we first moved to Oakland (it’s an Olive Us video and I’ll embed the video at the bottom of this post). Oscar sharing his school clothes for 7th grade this past fall. It was also the first week back to school, and I have to say it felt good getting our family back on a regular schedule, and for me to have a full work week. One more thing on my mind this weekend, is that Maude’s next semester at Berkeley starts on Monday. She’s still finessing her class schedule, and we have a few errands to run before she moves back into the dorms this weekend.

A BRIGHT & HAPPY CALIFORNIAN HOME

Image
A BRIGHT & HAPPY CALIFORNIAN HOME This is the beautiful family home of Amber Thrane, who is the co-owner of Dulcet Creative . Her Californian home is bright, eclectic and full of life. Amber describes her home as eclectic: there are bits of mid-century, industrial, vintage, bohemian and modern components all put together. Vintage is mixed new with pieces, sourced from local thrift stores, Craigslist, Ikea, Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie. The beautiful mid-century fireplace for example (featured in the last image) is a refurbished Craigslist find. A Boy’s Room in Paris

Image
A Boy’s Room in Paris Kids room in Paris A little boy in Paris with a seriously cool bedroom, a cupboard converted into a secret reading nook, DIY plans for triple bunks, and other inspiring ideas for kids’ rooms. Kids room in Paris I came across this fantastic bedroom for a 4 year old little boy in Paris via Merrilee Liddiard on Pinterest (her boards / pins are a definite must-follow). The family transformed the top floor of a Parisian building into a small house–visit MilK to read more about it. Here are more inspiring ideas for kid’s rooms that I’ve recently come across… Bunk bed over a crib in a kid's room If an unexpected addition to the family left you short on space, simply build a bunk / loft bed over the crib!
