The Great Wave

Image
The Great Wave Sending positive thoughts and prayers out to those in Japan and all of the other areas that have been and will be affected by yesterday's 8.9 Earthquake and subsequent Tsunami. The power of nature never ceases to amaze me. They say waves may reach Hawaii and as far as the California coast too. After watching the news and a few videos on the devastation, my thoughts wandered and came to rest on images of "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" by Katsushika Hokusai. He was a great Japanese artist who lived a long time ago from 1760 to 1849. This was the first color block print in the series "Thirty Six Views of Mount Fuji." I found a video with more of his work set to some soothing music too. I hope that calm seas return soon and that everybody has a safe and blessed day. It is a sunny day in LA, Just some pretty pictures for today. I hope you have a beautiful day. I'm watching one of my favorite movies, "The Holiday" Original article and pictu...

The Coolest Built-In Bunk Beds (and DIY Brass Hardware)

Image
The Coolest Built-In Bunk Beds (and DIY Brass Hardware) Christina is one of my favorite people. She is as kind, talented and gorgeous as the day is long. The last time I was in Arizona, I swung by her new house for a little tour. I’m going to beg her to let me share everything here on LGN when she’s finished (I’ll probably have to arm wrestle the editors at Elle Decor for it – it’s SO good!). In case you haven’t seen these yet, and since we were talking about cool bunk beds the other day, I thought I’d share the built-in bunks Christina did in her triplet sons’ room. So, so cool right? That railing is unreal. One of my favorite parts of the bed is the DIY hardware Christina made by spray painting pipes! I’ve made curtain rods out of pipes before, but never oversize pulls. The brass spray paint takes them to a whole new level. I love how chunky these are. Anything smaller would have been lost on the beds. See what I mean by talent...

The Chinoiserie Stair Runner

Image
The Chinoiserie Stair Runner I am taking a pause today from my One Room Challenge Chinoiserie Series to tell you about the next project in my house I am working on. I have decided to tackle my entryway. The painter is coming next week. I have found a stunning pair of Chinoiserie sconces and some wonderful things for the walls. I am now zeroing in on the stair runner. I have been thinking about a sisal stair runner, but have read that dogs can get their nails caught running down the stairs. Isabella has vetoed the idea. This sisal dragon tail stair runner by Barry Dixon with nail head trim is sensational though isn't it? I am also toying with the idea of a black and white Greek key runner like the bottom photo, but sans cat. Original article and pictures take www.chinoiseriechic.net site

Templestowe House by Christopher Elliott Design

Image
Templestowe House by Christopher Elliott Design Inspiring single storey residence recently redesigned by Christopher Elliott Design. It’s situated in Templestowe, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia. Description by Christopher Elliott Design We are all familiar with the wise saying “a stitch in time saves nine”, but this proverb does not best describe the approach taken by the previous owners of this expansive single storey house, towards the maintenance of their property. In fact the house and its gorgeous surrounding gardens; although ideally located amongst the rolling hills of Templestowe, were a veil to the outdated rooms and darkened interior that lay within. So by the time the current owners had purchased it they were rather overwhelmed as to how they would transform this awkward 1970’s property into a stunning home. Fear not, they called in the expert eye of Christopher Elliott; who had recently completed the design of their friend’s h...
